SURFACE RESEARCH

(4ft x 4ft x 2in), wood, gesso, acrylic paint

(Fall Semester)

For this project I hand built the canvas, using wood posts and panels. Then I applied gesso and did my painting overtop. We had to make it abstract and I knew I wanted to have bold color choices.

(9in x 12in), paper, micron pen

(Fall Semester)

Each section of this project was inspired by different emotions. It was meant to be descriptive, for example the center image is based off of the word “geometric”.

Each column shows a different stage of abstraction. I wanted them to have a similar theme, so for each abstraction I used the same shading techniques in each column.

(9in x 12in), paper, micron pen, trace paper

(Fall Semester)

For this project we had to create our own stamps. We traced around different shapes that we saw in real life and copied them down to create a pattern on the paper.

This is a piece expanded from the emotions artwork from above. We had to pick one and expand it into a full sheet of paper.

(18 in x 24in), paper, micron pen

(Fall Semester)

This was a “10,000 marks” project. It was meant to evoke circus or erratic themes. I wanted to express part of my artistic process where I don’t know what I’m doing and have too many ideas for one paper.

(4ft x 4ft x 3in), wood, acrylic paint, oil pastel, paint pen, white color pencil, newspaper, lace

(Fall Semester)

This project was one of my favorite in AFO. It’s meant to represent the artistic side of me, using a mirror photo I took. I used the laser printer to etch my photo on there and then painted the right side to match. The background is supposed to be dream-like and fluid.
